Privacy Policy — Duplicate Photo Cleaner for Google Photos

Duplicate Photo Cleaner ("the Extension", "we", "us") helps you find and remove duplicate photos and videos in your own Google Photos library. This policy explains exactly what the Extension does and does not do with your data. In plain terms: your photos never leave your computer, and we run no servers that receive your content.

Summary

• The Extension processes your library locally, in your own browser.
• No photo or video content, and no data derived from it, is ever transmitted off your device to us or any third party.
• We operate no server, database, or analytics that receives your data. We do not sell or share your data. We do not track you.
• The only information that leaves your browser is what is strictly required to process a Pro purchase, and that goes directly to our payment provider — not to us.

How the Extension accesses Google Photos

The Extension does not ask for your Google password and does not use a separate Google sign-in. It works only while you are already signed in to photos.google.com, acting within your existing session — the same access you already have when using the Google Photos website yourself. It reads the list of items in the library or album you choose to scan and downloads thumbnail images to compare them for duplicates.

What is processed, and where

• Thumbnails and item details (dimensions, file size, filename, creation date) are read from Google Photos and processed entirely within your browser. They are not sent anywhere.
• Perceptual hashes — small, one-way numeric fingerprints from which the original image cannot be reconstructed — are computed locally and cached in your browser (IndexedDB) to speed up repeat scans.
• Scan results and your selections are stored locally in the browser's extension storage so you can review them without rescanning.
• Deletions: when you select duplicates and confirm, the Extension moves those items to your Google Photos Trash, where Google retains them and they can be restored for approximately 60 days. The Extension does not permanently delete anything.

All of the above stays on your device. Removing the Extension or clearing browser storage removes this local data.

Payments (Pro upgrade)

The optional one-time Pro upgrade is handled by Gumroad (gumroad.com), which acts as the seller of record and payment processor. When you upgrade, you interact directly with Gumroad, which receives the information needed to process payment and issue you a license key (for example, an email address and payment details you enter). We never receive or store your card details. After purchase you paste your license key into the Extension, which verifies it with Gumroad and then unlocks Pro features. We do not use payment information for any purpose other than providing and validating the Pro license.

What we do NOT do

• We do not collect, transmit, or store your photos, videos, thumbnails, or any content or metadata derived from them, off your device.
• We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking, or fingerprinting.
• We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone.
• We do not use your data to train models or for any purpose unrelated to finding and removing duplicates.

Data retention

All Extension data is local to your browser and remains until you clear it, remove the Extension, or clear browser storage. We hold no copy because we never receive it.

Children

The Extension is not directed to children under 13 and is intended for account holders managing their own Google Photos library.
